Fence Booms

Overview

Fence booms are typically used in rivers, estuaries, harbours and coastlines. Flotation is provided by thick foam blocks (closed cell) which are 80cm to 1m long to provide flexibility, they are also less bulky than Curtain booms.

Curtain and Slit Booms

Curtain Boom Overview

Curtain booms can be used in rivers, estuaries, harbours or coastlines (slight sea). Flotation is provided by thick foam blocks with closed cells which are 80cm to 1m long to provide flexibility. Curtain booms have a higher buoyancy weight ratio than Fence booms, offering a better response to waves when being towed. Curtain booms can be stored on reels or rack systems.

Slit Boom Overview

By changing the “skirt” (draft) of the boom to a geotextile it can be used to contain waste such as gravel, sediment etc. (2 to 10m depth) Contact us to discuss your specific application.

Permanent Booms

Overview

Permanent booms are robust and hard-wearing with flotation provided by foam filled PEHD demi-spheres (35cm) or rectangular (80cm) floats to provide flexibility in the boom and they have a simple to attach/remove system ensuring easy float maintenance for cleaning or repair. Permanent booms can contain both hydrocarbons and floating waste.

Air Booms

Overview

Air booms are ideal for deploying from spill responses vessels, where curtain booms would be bulky and impractical to use. Volume is reduced as flotation is via inflatable chambers from 5m to 25m. Typically used on open water where there could be rough sea and, as a consequence, a high buoyancy to weight ratio is important to offer a better response to waves when being towed. Inflation is achieved by manual, electrical or thermic blowers.

Self-Inflating Booms

Overview

Self-inflating booms are ideal for deploying from spill responses vessels, where curtain booms would be bulky and impractical. Volume is reduced as flotation is via inflatable chambers from 5m to 25m. Typically used on open water where there could be rough sea and, as a consequence, a high buoyancy to weight ratio is important to offer a better response to waves when being towed. Self-inflating booms rely on springs/coils inside the structure of the boom that are compressed in storage and the action of deployment draws air into the boom via a one-way valve.

Tidal Booms

Overview

Tidal booms with a ballast chamber (water filled) are designed for shallow water or where you need containment to start from the shore (connect to the shore line with permanent or curtain booms floating in the water). In case of a strong water flow, a version with two air chambers on the lower part is available to provide better stability. Air and water

Reels & Containers Overview

We offer a full range of reels from 1 to 5m which can be powered by hydraulics, electrics (220v or 380v tri) or manually. To aid the correct storage of your equipment we offer 20ft or 40ft ISO containers which can be outfitted with reels or storage racks for your booms and provide storage for tanks, skimmers, pumps, power packs etc. These dedicated stores provide security for expensive equipment and make it easy to transport it all together minimizing the risk of damage in transit.

Rack Overview

This rack (hot dip galvanised steel) is designed to aid the rapid deployment of booms and protect them when not in use. Fitted with transport restraints to minimise the risk of damage in transit, the unit is also fitted with fork pockets for easy movement by fork lift truck. Racks can be stacked up to 3 high to reduce the storage footprint.

Portable Air BBlower Overview

ASTM Wire Connector Overview

Move or secure booms by connecting the system to the ASTM connection (extruded aluminium) on the boom. Manufactured with 1500kgf/5cm strength and stainless steel cables.

Skimmers

Weir Skimmer Overview

Weir skimmers work by allowing the oil floating on the surface of the water to flow over a weir (height is selfadjustable to maintain ration of oil to water collected) and be collected for disposal. A submersible pump sits underneath to transfer the collected oil.

D-Type Skimmer Overview

This type of skimmer sits at the head of a submersible pump and is used to skim across the surface of the water, making it ideal for collecting thick, viscous layers of hydrocarbons in “still” waters (lakes, rivers, harbours etc)

Brush Skimmer Overview

Brush skimmers comprise of 1, 2 or 4 side-by-side banks of brushes with the “bristles” made of polypropylene to ensure a strong resistance to chemical products and at the same time only absorbing a small amount of water. Each brush row is powered by its own hydraulic engine and the skimmed hydrocarbons are pumped to a storage tank via an onboard pumping system. This type of skimmer is ideal for use with high-viscosity hydrocarbons.

Disk Skimmer Overview

Disc skimmer comprise of 1, 2 or 4 side-by-side oleophilic rows of discs (PVC, aluminium or steel) which collect the hydrocarbons inside the skimmer and each row of discs is powered by its own hydraulic engine. The hydrocarbons stick to the disks which, as they rotate interact with flexible scrappers to remove the hydrocarbons. The collected hydrocarbons are then pumped to a storage tank. This type of skimmer is ideal for use with low and mediumviscosity hydrocarbons.

Drum Skimmer Overview

Drum skimmers comprise of 1, 2 or 4 side-by-side drum(s) powered by their own engine. As the drum(s) rotate the hydrocarbons stick to the surface and are scrapped off by flexible scrappers located on the sides of the drum(s). The collected hydrocarbons are then pumped to a storage tank. This skimmer is ideal for low and medium viscosity hydrocarbons.

Multi Function Skimmer Overview

Multi-functions skimmers are a combination of three different styles of skimmer (brushes, discs and drums) designed to collect varying types of hydrocarbon.
